Lori-Ann Muenzer lives in Edmonton, Alberta. She was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 21, 1966 and has been road racing since 1987 with Toronto Cycling Club LocalMotion. She has been track (Velodrome) racing since 1994. Lori-Ann has also been a part of the Canadian National Cycling Team since 1994. Currently (2005) she is a part of the Juventus Cycling Club in Edmonton. Muenzer has interests including a cycling program she is starting up for kids, also in public speaking and currently working on a Diploma in Photography.
She was one of Canada’s top performers at the 2004 Olympic Games, capturing a gold metal in Athens with her outstanding performances in the women’s Match Sprint finals. With that Olympic victory, Lori-Ann became the first Canadian to bring home a gold medal in cycling.
Apart from reaching the top of the podium in Athens, Lori-Ann has captured several medals on the international stage, including two silver and two bronze at the World Track Cycling Championships and one silver and two bronze medal total at the 1998 and 2002 Commonwealth Games. She made her Olympic debut for Canada at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
Lori-Ann has also accumulated an outstanding 13 National titles and 11 World Cup medals throughout the course of her career.
Lori-Ann has received honours to date from being named the 2004 Canadian Press & Broadcast News’ Female Athlete of the Year, induction into both the Alberta and Edmonton Sports Hall of Fame, and receiving the 2005 Tribute to Women of Distinction “Honourable Lois E. Hole Award for Lifetime Achievement” by the YWCA.
With the release of her documentary, “One Gear, No Breaks” and a spring 2006 publication date for her biography, Lori-Ann is not only an amazing athlete, but also an astute entrepreneur starting her own company, Pure Momentum Inc. which promotes a community of female motivational speakers.
