Dr. John Kenneth Milne - Currently Associate Executive Vice-President (2006), SOGC (Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada)

  • completed medical school at the University of Western Ontario in 1965

  • obtained his fellowship in obstetrics and gynaecology from the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in 1970

  • was awarded a McLaughlin Traveling Fellowship in Perinatology in 1970

  • studied at The Latin American Centre of Perinatology and Human Development in Montevideo, Uruguay, South America

  • returned to the University of Western Ontario as an assistant professor in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1971

  • practiced for 29 years as a member of the University Department in the City of London, Ontario

  • during this period, served as Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St. Joseph's Health Care from 1982 to 1992

  • obtained the rank of full professor in 1989 and was Chair of the University of Western Ontario's Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from 1992 to 1999

  • while being chair of the University Department, was appointed the Chief of Service at both the London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Centre

  • 1989 to 1999, served on The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada board of examiners in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and was Chief Examiner from 1997 to 1999.

  • 1990, he chaired The Ontario Provincial Ministry of Health Committee to develop a quality assurance program for caesarean birth for the province. The report's recommendations helped to establish the current standards of practice used in hospitals today.

  • chaired the Ontario Medical Association Committee on Reproductive Care and was a member of the Implementation of Midwifery in Ontario

  • member of the OMA / Ministry of Health pilot study for the integration of serum alfa-fetal protein testing for open neural defects

  • served as President of The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada and The Canadian Gynaecological Society

  • founding member of the SOGC's national obstetrical risk management program ALARM (Advances in Labour and Risk Management) and provided administrative leadership to this program from 1996-2003

  • 1999 he joined the national office of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada as the Associate Executive Vice President and Director of Continuing Professional Development

  • provided leadership in the development of the SCOPE program, developed to reduce the surgical complications of pelvic endoscopy

  • led the development of the MOREOB program (Managing Obstetrical Risk Efficiently), launched as a pilot in November 2002 and introduced into the hospital environment nationally
